A 5-day Initial OHS course


The Health & Safety Representatives (HSRs) Initial OHS Training Course (face-to-face) is primarily designed for HSRs - and their deputies. However managers, supervisors, Health and Safety Committee members - and indeed anyone with an interest in workplace health and safety  - also will benefit from attending the program.

OSHA is approved by WorkSafe Victoria to conduct this course.

What We Cover:

The initial course is delivered over five days. This can be delivered over five consecutive days, or spread over a longer time with training delivered in ‘blocks’ of time no less than one day in duration.

The learning objectives of the course are to:

  • interpret the occupational health and safety legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR
  • identify key parties and their legislative obligations and duties
  • establish representation in the workplace
  • participate in consultation, issue resolution and the OHS risk management process
  • understand the roles, functions, rights & powers of HSRs
  • represent designated work group members in OHS risk management processes. 
  • issue a provisional improvement notice (PIN) and direct the cessation of work

Course Fee (Face to Face):      $1085.00 (+GST) per person (Includes:  comprehensive colour Workbook, OHS Act & catering - including coffee/tea and a light lunch)

Trainers: All of our trainers are highly experienced and well regarded in Health and Safety Industry,  have well over 20 - 30 years experience in OHS training, consulting, auditing and risk assessment field.

Course Objective: WorkSafe actively encourages HSRs to take up their training entitlements. This training will help a HSR to understand their roles and exercise their powers effectively.  Deputy HSRs also have an entitlement to this training. Section 67 of the Vic OHS Act provides for HSRs (and Deputy HSRs) to choose their course in consultation with their employer.  (Please note: participants must complete their own  enrolment form.)

Certificate: Attendance at all sessions is required in order to be awarded a Certificate of Attendance. (As the course is not competency based, there is no formal assessment.)  Note: 
This course must be completed within 6 months of commencement.  'Make-up' daus ate available for missed days.

Please Note: This course is specifically for organisations in Victoria operating under the jurisdiction of the OHS Act 2004 and not suitable for workplaces covered by Work Health & Safety Acts in the Commonwealth, other States and Territories.
